Good prospects for cancer research
The new M3 research centre should facilitate investigation of the interactions between genome, microorganisms and metabolites in the human body. To this end, the research zone on Schnarrenberg in Tuebingen is being expanded with a separate, representative element. The new research building is positioned as a compact, “shiny” building on the slope edge with a view of the surroundings and blends into the topography with its layered levels as if it were natural.

The design is based on the central idea of a compact core zone (laboratories and open-plan offices), which is surrounded by open office and communication structures. In set “boxes” in the communication zone are the print rooms, a cloakroom and a coffee corner as well as meeting rooms and retreats. This emerges along the outer and inner access routes and forms the central backbone of the building for fast, internal communication and interdisciplinary cooperation.
