Campus in the garden city
The future campus of the 84th primary school is located in the Hellerau district of Dresden, the famous garden city. The aim of the design is to complement the existing, listed ensemble of school and service buildings with an extension and to form a new, high-quality, spatial unit. Inspired by the surrounding development and its structural forms, the new build will be designed as a single-storey building with extended hip roof, low eave height and finely structured plaster façade.

The set volumes divide the open space into various zones: Whilst a campus square with an urban character is formed between the U-shaped arrangement of the buildings around the caretaker’s house, the north side of the new build is orientated towards the sheltered playground in green surroundings. At the interface between old and new building, a generous school yard is being created, which both integrates a volleyball court in view of the existing situation and allows enough space for pupils to run and play.
